Hannah Hunt
Q: Where are you from?
A: I grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, but also spent a few years living in Dallas, Texas.
Q: What is your year/major? Have you studied anywhere besides Clemson?
A: I am a senior marketing major with a minor in art.
Q: How long have you been making art and why do you do it?
A: I can’t remember a time when art was not a part of my life. Growing up as a figure skater, my love for art and fashion allowed me to design all of my competition dresses, wearing the first dress I designed at the age of twelve. Now, whether it’s the cups I use or what is hanging on my walls, I choose to surround myself with art in order to create an environment that inspires me.
Q: What themes do you pursue as an artist?
A: Much of my work has elements of escapism and whimsy, where I create delicate forms that represent a state of reverie. I am very interested in the relationship between user and vessel and I try to create forms that create a special experience each time they are used.
Q: What do you like about your work? In general and for the selected piece?
A: In general, what I like about my own work is the graphic qualities incorporated into the surface design and the attention to detail in each form. For my fall 2015 share piece, I enjoy the glaze combination that I am using, which produces a really beautiful color, as well as nice contrast between a shiny and matte surface.
Q: What are you most excited about for this CSA season? What do you hope to gain by joining us as a share artist?
A: Although I have been a part of the CSArt team since we have started, this is my first season as an artist, which is an opportunity I couldn’t be more excited about! I look forward to interacting with the shareholders in a new way as an artist and further improving my throwing skills as I am producing these share pieces.
Q: What are some other art related internships, demonstrations, gallery showings, or publications you have been involved with?
A: I am currently the president of the Clemson Ceramics Association, which has been one of my favorite experiences while at Clemson! In the Spring of 2015, I also had the wonderful opportunity to work under Meredith Mims McTigue, the Marketing and Public Relations Director for the College of Architecture, Arts and Humanities here at Clemson. During summer of 2014, I represented the art department with an internship called Adobe Scholars, where I had the opportunity to be taught the programs within the Adobe Creative Cloud and to produce an article about CSArt in the Creative Inquiry magazine, Decipher.
