Kymberly Day
Q: Where are you from?
A: Dallas, Texas, originally, but I’ve lived in the Carolinas most of my life.
Q: What is your year/major? Have you studied anywhere besides Clemson?
A: I’m a first-year MFA sculpture student. I got my BFA at Maryland Institute College of Art.
Q: How long have you been making art? What do you love most about creating art?
A: I’ve been drawing since I can remember and painting since age 5. I love being able to recreate a person, object, or setting in a work of art.
Q: What themes do you pursue as an artist? How would you describe your design aesthetic/style?
A: I’m pursuing the idea of anthropomorphism of objects and animals. I use a lot of animal imagery, and I’m currently applying animal-like qualities & textures to inanimate objects. My aesthetic incorporates humor, playfulness, and tactile appeal.
Q: What do you like about your work? In general and for the selected piece.
A: In general, I like the humor, color palette, and tactility in my work. The selected piece has a simplicity and calmness that a lot of my other work does not have.
Q: What are you most excited about for this CSA season? What do you hope to gain by joining us as a share artist?
A: I can’t wait to see all of the selected pieces together and to high-five everybody when we’re done.
Q: What are some other art related internships, demonstrations, gallery showings, or publications you have been involved with?
A: I’ll be in a group show at Greenville Center for Creative Arts throughout February, and I just started a blog on my website where I post lots of in-progress work & studio shots.
