We caught up with Carey and asked him a little about himself!

Q:How would you describe your design aesthetic/ style?
A: For craft based work I allow for the chosen material and subject matter to inform the design. Ranging from the organic to the sleek and modern, yet thematically linked to an interest rustic and nostalgic sensibilies.

Q: What What are you most excited about for this CSA season?are your inspirations? in general and for the selected piece.
A: The rose came about through an interest in transforming a normally very industrial and often aggressive material into a more organic and elegant object.

Q: What are you most excited about for this CSA season?
A:The CSA sessions bring an opportunity to experience a unique showcase of craft made by diverse talent and processes that is always interesting. Being able to speak with the shareholders, discuss the work and expound upon the process and their feedback is extremely beneficial as an artist.

Q: What are some other art related internships, demonstrations, gallery showings, or publications you have been involved with?

A: I have been featured in several shows throughout the upstate. Holding solo exhibitions of contemporary sculpture at Lander University and Coker College, as well as taking part in larger collective art shows such as Art Fields in Lake city SC. More recently featured in contemporary installation art show at the Upstairs Art space in Tryon NC. As a metal worker and craftsmen I am deeply involved in craft based organizations. Representing SC alongside other artists in The Artist, Blacksmith Assoc. of North America (ABANA).  I have held booths at SC Comicon, and given blacksmithing demonstrations at festivals such as Artisphere in Greenville SC for the past 3 years. I was recently fortunate enough to receive a full Scholarship from Clemson to attend Penland School of Crafts summer session for canoe building, and will once again be a featured and published artist in the 5th annual Artfields exhibition in Lake City SC.

Our second featured artist for CSArt Spring 2017 is Shelby Webb!

Q:How would you describe your design aesthetic/ style?
A:Since I am an undergraduate I am still developing my design aesthetic but I am drawn towards creating simple forms that have a touch of personality to them whether that is in my glazing process or the creating of the form itself.

Q:What do you love most about ceramics?
A:I love that you can create functional objects from a pile of clay, and that there are no limits to what you can create. I also really enjoy the glazing process, although it can sometimes be unpredictable, it is amazing to see all of the new colors and layers you can create.

Q:What are your inspirations? in general and for the selected piece.
A:I inspire to continue to develop my own style and continue to grow as an artist. For my share piece I enjoy the organic style and the whimsical dripping of the glaze.

Q:How long have you been making ceramics or other art in general?
A:I have always had a love for art ever since I was little, but i have been working with ceramics for almost a year and a half now

Q:What are you most excited about for this CSA season?
A:This will be my first season with CSA so I am very excited to work with other artists and be involved in a community full of support and a love for art.

Q:What are some other art related internships, demonstrations, gallery showings, or publications you have been involved with?
A: Being an undergraduate I haven't had the chance yet to be a part of an internship but sinceFall of 2016 I have been a apart of the Clemson Ceramics Association.
